2015’s surprises…

My last post was that 2015 will be an interesting year in the photographic world. Well its already thrown up some surprises like the new FF Pentax  DSLR,

Amongst the hype of the Pentax K-FF and 2 new D-FA lenses being announced, Pentax quietly slipped out their K mount lens road map as well, and for the astute lookers, there was a couple of surprises. Pentax are re-introducing the legendary FA 50mm f1.4,  FA 35mm f2AL, FA 31mm f1.8 Limited, FA 43mm f1.9 Limited and FA 77mm f1.8 Limited lenses.

The CP+ trade show is just about to wrap up in Japan,  this year the Pentax K-FF, and Olympus OM-D E-M5 II were the big news from the floor, but almost quietly Canon announced 2 new models in the EOS 5D line up, the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5DsR.

The big news for these 2 models is that they both have a 50 megapixel CMOS sensor.. yes FIFTY megapixels in a DSLR.  The difference between the 2, the EOS 5Ds has a traditional AA filter on the sensor, where as the 5DsR doesnt. What does that mean? the 5DsR will have a little more visible resolution, making it ideal for Landscape photographers, and fine art photographers, but will run the risk of showing Moire patterns if photographing fashion/fabrics.

The big surprise is that Sony have not made any major announcements at this show. What are they working on, is the so far vaporware A9 and A99 Mk II just that? rumours and vaporware? We can only wait until Sony make the announcement.

So Far 2015 has surprised….
